Carbon New Year!
January 5, 2007 by piereth
The time of the year cometh when we book up our flights to head off at the end of June to visit the MiL. She lives in Ibiza, the gorgeous end of the island surrounded by pines, right on the beach with a lovely pool and cicadas in the oleander bushes all around. This year I am going to be attempting to neutralise the flights there and back by buying a package from www.futureforests.com who invest in deciduous tree planting in the UK and carbon - reducing initiatives abroad.
I am also going to investigate neutralising the house emissions based on our usage of gas and electricity, and the car also. They give you a ready reckoner on the site so you can organise how much you owe.
Perhaps, to go for the hat-trick, I can persuade the boss to cover the company too? I think it would look great on the website - !

Now that sounds like a brilliant idea! I did the carbon neutral thing for my flights to Kenya last June, and have made real efforts to be low energy usage at home… its the office that is the real problem. All these computers and other machines guzzling power, plus the lights (which are halogen so not energy efficient bulbs) and the heating and the driving to and fro every day…
