Loverly Weekend
January 8, 2007 by piereth
…spent visiting friends and catching up, something we none of us do enough of. It felt good.
I have also fallen back in love with my house. It’s a strange place, being only one room wide but 4 storeys high and therefore stairs-y in the extreme.
Our bedroom is on the very top floor and is a restful shade of sage green with a white carpet. Furniture is oak and white wood. Pictures include a poster given to me by a very close friend depicting Cantabria as a goddess riding a bear, two gorgeous black and white photographs in matching frames taken by the Husband, T’s amazing orchid painting and an antique brass-bound mirror. No curtains, as the only things that can see me nekkid at that height are the pigeons.
R sleep one floor down next to the bathroom. We inhabit the cellar - the grown ups lair - and R’s sitting room is at the front on the ground floor and gets the most sun of any room in the house.
The kitchen is tiny but perfect, the bathroom is large and needs work.
Suddenly I want to do things, to fettle, fiddle and fuss, to get curtains and blinds made, to hang pictures and arrange things. This is a good feeling.

Sounds like a lovely house and that you’re getting some spring fever!

I would much love a weekend like that. I am in the process of moving right now and I can’t wait to sink my toes into the fresh carpet and hang pictures. Fabulous!
Ah, yes, nesting. Love it. It was wonderful taking down the Christmas decorations and cleaning up - getting back to how my house ’should’ be.
The Narrow House is gorgeous m’dear, the guest bedroom alone should be in Sawday!
Guys, I’m a mad homemaker, all I have ever wanted is to make jam and grow vegetables!
L - that’s it, that’s it exactly! The light is getting ever so slightly longer… pretty soon I’ll start seeing smudges on the inside of the windows and I’ll have to do something - I’ve already got the oven cleaner team coming round (how sad is that?)
Shelby - congratulations on moving, happy landings and I hope your new place gives you as much fun and chicken soup for the soul as mine does! There’s nothing better than fettling the house… isn’t new carpet one of the best smells going?
Truce, my love, as always you flatter me wildly…x
Good luck with the move Shelby!
You know, I was just looking at my house last night and thinking that I needed to go all 1930’s style on it and have a Proper Spring Clean, wearing a pinny and with my hair tied back in a headscarf, moving all the furniture, defrosting the fridge, cleaning the windows and windowsills, beating the rugs and curtains… quite exciting and very therapeutic probably.
Pinnies rock!
