Timewarp Weekend
January 29, 2007 by piereth
What a fantastic weekend. All my favourite things – Japanese food (oh, those edamame beans!) shopping, bargains, sunshine, cooking, chocolate, gossip, in-jokes, laughter, croissants and Johnny Depp movies. T is really the only friend I’ve got that will suggest a cuppa tea and a book as something to do. Yet another reason why I love her.
I was sorry to leave and I wished I’d got off my ass and gone over to
Norwich much sooner than I did. But it really felt as though we were picking up right where we left off. I haven’t seen T since last May – but it didn’t matter a jot. This is amazing and spooky but wonderful simultaneously. It is another mystery of the human condition that a friendship can be preserved, over months or years, with almost no input, without harm coming to it. It exists in a glorious suspended animation, lit by all the good things that happened in the past, ready to be watered and to put on another foot or two of fresh growth when occasion shall serve. How does this happen? You can’t make it happen, it just… happens. Rarely. I don’t think any of us know why, but all of us can say we have a friendship like it. At least, I hope so. Because of this extraordinary phenomenon I know that T and I will communicate while she’s away and it’ll be as though there’s no distance there at all. Dang it, we’ve cracked teleportation!

Did I mention that I love how you write?! You’ve just summed up al the things I wanted to say
Beam me up, Scotty…
… and I love the photographs you take, each one a well-turned little gem of balance and refracted light. Mine look like they were taken by a four year old.
The spaceship leaves at 1800 - join me??
You’ll have to post the photos. Sounds like a lovely weekend. I could sure use one of those!
