Baby Bookworm

R has a small library stacking up in his playpen now, a pile which includes a peepo book with flaps to lift called Peekaboo Baby, a treatise on difference in dogs called Big Dog, Small Dog; the Very Hungry Caterpillar (board book) and a couple of other lesser works (!)
He’ll now pick one of these and brandish it at me till I read it to him. At 5.30am we had Peekaboo Baby 4 times, Caterpillar twice and a round of his Dinosaur Textures book before I rebelled and went off to get a cup of tea, while he roared his disapprobation and banged Dinosaurs on the floor.
The trick is to get lots of new ones so I don’t end up being able to repeat them without looking at the pages.
However, all this said, I love reading to R, snuggling up and having him answer my expositions with his ‘Hnh!’ noise, which I think means yes.

I loved reading to my kids too. Robert Munsch is a wonderful Canadian children’s author. Your son would laugh his head off at some of the stories, and you will too. http://robertmunsch.com/storytime.cfm
Thanks so much for that link, I’ll check it out!! Never heard of Mr Munsch, I think we tend to focus, perhaps too much, on British authors over here where children’s books are concerned.
Ah, but the Very Hungry Caterpillar wasn’t written by a Brit at all. So R is sophisticated already, without even trying!
