Hooray, hooray for visitors.
We have Julesy and Butters coming to stay this weekend. The best bit about folk coming to stay is that you do things round the house that you have been putting off. R and I spent an hour yesterday cleaning and rearranging the bathroom - he helped by brandishing my big fluffy ‘tickling-stick’ duster and shouting, and I got everything looking ship-shape and then nipped out to buy more towels, a new bathmat and some of those cunning over-door hanger sets, nicely chromed, to cope with everyone’s dressing-gowns.
Also, it allows me to get into full-on Mama Host role, planning menus and making soup and putting flowers in vases and thinking of fun things to do and so on…..
The thing about Julesy is that from the moment I got together with the Husband, J welcomed me into the large, unorthodox and fiercely loyal extended friend-family she is the queen of. This was something she didn’t have to do and I’m the richer for it - she’s been a close friend of H’s for many a long year. That she comes all the way from Sussex, and that she is willing to stay with us when I know she’s not comfortable away from home, is wonderful.
