Let’s bring back the 50’s

New Plan - to cut up the cartes du credit and spend no more than I earn every month. I think it was Mr Micawber who said that if you were sixpence in credit at the end of a year you were a winner (to severely paraphrase Dickens). This makes sense to me.
Added to which, plastic is so infernally easy. You swipe and run, and it doesn’t feel like a transaction at all, more of an institutionalised form of shoplifting. Of course, the reckoning comes soon enough.
If the spirit is willing, but the flesh is weak, which I am afraid sums me up, it must be better to work it all out in advance, take out the spending money in cash on the first of the month and leave the debit card in the drawer? Yes, I think so too.
So a plan has been drawn up. Cards have been shredded. Wallets feel lighter, but overdrafts also feel lighter. A plan for repayment has been put in place. Now, we’re cash, all the way to the bank.

God, that is EXACTLY what I need to do.
But first I need to figure out how to transfer money between my Aussie account and my UK account.
They can do it for you at the bank but it’ll cost you $50 - best to do one big trannie.
I do feel better for just having made the decision to make the decision to quit spending. The redemptive power of virtuous behaviour!
