There’s things I can deal with then there’s things I cannot.
I am a member of various forums, and one in particular (I name no names, cause this is my fight) I have grown tired of. Simply because you can’t post without some smartass jumping down your neck. The premise of the site is that everyone can have an opinion and post it, which is exactly what I would wish. However, the other premise is that you have to be able to stand criticism to ‘grow as a person’. Sure. Whatever.
This translates as an open door policy for the opinionated, and frankly, rude, to go to work on as many people as they like while proclaiming their own moral bona fides. Who actually has time for this? To play is to subscribe, and I don’t.
If you can’t be polite, and allow people a point of view without demanding that they defend it to High Court level, then bugger off.
Is what I think! Do as you would be done by! And no-one, no-one, would prefer to be harangued rather than spoken to with respect. So don’t go telling me that it’s ok!

unfortunately the reality is that most people who post aggressive stuff on blogs are utterly cowardly - they over compensate for their inability to avoid wetting the bed by acting the hard man…witness the particularly loathsome behaviour demonstrated by a whole clutch of lank-haried no-marks recently:
http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/technology/6499095.stm
and I hereby patent the phrase “lank-haried”
Lank-haried - genius!
It’s not cricket, Carruthers, certainly not cricket…
yeah, and the worse part about only being virtually in communication with these lank-haired (and no doubt Megadeath Tshirt-wearing) eejits is that you can’t just laugh in their face.
That always really annoys them, heh heh.
Sheesh, I get really exercised by this whole thing. I’ve just decided to abandon the TWO sites that hack me off like this. If these fools can take refuge in there and fire salvoes at us, I can bugger off and leave them hanging. The upside of virtual conversations is that you can walk off and no-one can see where you went…!
Pie, If rude people scare you off, then what has been gained? You have one less place you feel welcome, and they have one more. And this is their reward for acting like jerks…it encourages them to do it again and again…
Personally, I would not let them get away with it
If the forum has value, that is.
FYI, I get all my news about the world from http://icanhascheezburger.com/
Delightfully mad. Like it!
I know what you mean about rude folk scaring me off.. but really, what’s the upside? Stay and subject myself to their punitive regime? Stay and become as picky, impolite and objectionable as them? Frankly, they’re not worth it! I must say, I never did feel welcome there…. too much hanging about on the periphery required before they ‘let you into the club’.
I went there as they seemed semi-serious about a subject I take very seriously - but it would appear you can’t get the intelligent conversation without taking the shit too. Life is WAYYY to short. I’ll go read a book and talk to myself instead!!
