Ever lain awake at 3am knowing there was no more sleep for you that night?
I have had four full night’s sleep in six months, and finally this has taken its toll on me. I found myself checking things four and five times at work, to make sure they were right, because my addled brain couldn’t tell first off. Swaying gloopily in my chair come 4pm, eyes flapping, cursing the fact that sleep during the day is so easy. Spending weekends trying not to doze off over the paper or over whatever I happened to be doing. On Monday I cracked.
I am on Amytriptyline, a hideous tricyclic antidepressant but the doctor has me on 10mg per day. Boy, does it work. On 10mg, which I take at 8pm, I’m talking nonsense by 9 and am asleep for the full night by 10. I understand the holding dose for depression is 75mg per day. That’s enough to stop a horse from getting up. Thank god I’m not depressed.
So the drugs do work. I guess this is what they call the chemical cosh!

cool! do they go well with beer?
No, unfortunately. If you talked shite on beer, you’d talk gibberish on these plus beer!
gotta love the drugs. When I was ill, I did the whole laying sleeplessly for hours thing for months. Feels like no one else on the whole planet is awake. And then the day is a series of accidents while you groggily try to function.
I say again, gotta love the drugs.
They’re grrrreat! Feeling much more chipper now. The only downside is when it’s my turn to tend the pig in the night - I sometimes do the whole thing with my eyes shut. Poor mouse, nappy ends up on head, lol.
