Broke Already
March 4, 2008 by piereth
I always do my accounts at the start of the month. So, for March, I’ve got the chance to be depressed about money for 27 days straight. Every penny allocated. Everyone will get paid, all bills will be covered, all promises kept. Food will go on the table, babysitters will receive their remuneration. I have £50 left after all this; I’m seriously considering a career change, and becoming a chain-smoking, couch-potato benefit fraudster on permanent incapacity benefit. I’m sure I’d be better off.
This is when having no credit cards feels very hard. Because this was where the treats and presents to oneself came from.

You could be creative with those 50 pounds … how about some nice bubble bath, a trashy paperback and a nice candle.
Do you have a LUSH around you? They have some great bubble bars …. Karma is my favorite!
I’d absolutely love to blow it all on books and chocolate… but I need to keep it for prescriptions, urgent small purchases and pocket change. Depressing, huh? Never mind, I can console myself that I’m not saving myself up a disaster on a stick by amassing huge credit debts. I actually will be debt free by this time next year if I stick at it!
We don’t do consumer debt either (our debt is the house and student loans) so no cc to bail us out when the bank account is low and lately my venture into part-time employment has been noticed. I am having a ’spend free’ week where I am determined not to spend any money at all which means eating what is in my cupboards. I spent $800 on my pets last month at the vet. Ridiculous!
I keep wanting to get a dog but then I remember that very fact - vet bills and kennel fees! Have you got your dogs insured, mamatried?
with birthdays around the corner maybe there will be some surprises! Think how much you’re saving by not slurrrrrrping. Have a good day. It’s sunny and warm in West Sussex - beautiful. Dogs aren’t expensive if they’re healthy - a bit like us really and think of all that walking. Carole
True Carole - saving both pennies and calories by leaving the demon drink alone
I’m really looking forward to my birthday, and to R’s - should be such a laugh. I’ve bought him Goosefeather Farm from Early Learning Centre and a sub to the animal shelter!
I don’t have insurance as it doesn’t cover a lot of things so wasn’t worth it. And it is true that young dogs don’t cost much, but as 2 of my dogs approach 9 and 10 I will be spending more on them I am sure. The $800 was for yearly visits, shots, heartworm meds for 6 months and some blood tests on Jack who had a seizure (he’s okay) but I haven’t taken them in since last year to be fair!
We are lucky as we trade dog sitting services with friends. I think it would cost $75 a day if not!
Wow, that’s a lot. More than just dog food to be considered, eh?
