How disconcerting is it when you ring a friend and her husband answers, only to tell you when you ask if she’s there that they’ve split up and the lady of the house is out looking at flats.

I was expecting the day from hell, original model, yesterday and instead got a Good Housekeeping, Garden & Home, Technicolor perfection day the like of which I have never known.
